micro:bit Maqueen Car Series: Pick and Whiz (1 Full-Day Camp)

By

Suitable for Ages: 9 – 15 | Ages for 7 & 8: To be advised.

In this 1-Day camp, students will be introduced to additive manufacturing and TinkerCAD briefly to get them started on simple design modifications. They will learn to 3D print some of the parts of the mechanisms using a Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printer. They will then learn to assemble the 3D printed parts with the respective electronic hardware of the micro:Maqueen. Simple coding is done to test the mechanisms before a complete coding is done to allow the micro:Maqueen to do the required tasks and applications using the attached mechanisms.

This camp covers the mechanism design for a picker where the object is picked from the top. As this design involves more movement, the young learners will be exposed to mechanism design involving more than one microservo. Two design variations are introduced for the picker mechanism. The young learners will get to know the pros and cons of either design and their respective applications.

Overview of the Camp

Suitable for Ages: 7 – 12 | No coding experience is required.

In this 2-Day camp, we will be collaborating with Miro Art to expose students to coding and art. Each day, the class will be split into two halves – during the first half of the day, students will be dedicated to learning block-based, drag-and-drop programming to build on their fundamentals of computational thinking. Students will also be introduced to the Scratch Web Editor allowing them to familiarize themselves with the sections of the web editor interface, covering the relevant program blocks which enable them to create interactive games, storyboards. During the second half of the day, students will be engaged in Pokémon-themed art activities such as clay art and canvas art.

We aim to provide a balanced approach to students and help them gain a basic understanding of computational thinking and enable them to express their creativity and find connections between technology and art.
Note: A minimum of 3 students are required for the camp to commence.
